You’re exhausted, irritable, and low-key fantasizing about running away to a cabin in the woods. No, you’re not broken. You might just be burned out.
Burnout isn’t just a badge of busyness—it’s a real health issue. As a physician and advocate, I’ve seen firsthand how chronic stress leads to serious physical consequences. Let’s talk about what’s happening inside your body when burnout takes hold.

How Burnout Affects Your Body:
Brain Fog & Memory Issues: Chronic stress reduces blood flow to the brain, making it hard to concentrate or recall things.
Digestive Issues: Stress disrupts the gut-brain axis, leading to bloating, acid reflux, or IBS symptoms.
Hormonal Havoc: Your cortisol levels (stress hormone) spike—and then crash. Cue fatigue, weight gain, and poor sleep.
Immune Suppression: You get sick more often, heal more slowly.
Signs You’re in Burnout:
You wake up tired.
You’re easily irritated.
You’re forgetting basic things.
Everything feels urgent or overwhelming.
You dread things you used to enjoy.
If three or more of these apply to you, it’s time to hit pause.
